Town Engineer Mr. Casey told members the flood wall project is effectively 100% designed and is intended to protect the treatment plant from coastal storms up to the 100-year event plus an additional three feet. Soil borings for the project identified one location where contamination may be present; staff recommended targeted additional testing to characterize subsurface conditions.
Mr. Casey said the additional work would cost $5,340 and be limited to the single identified location within the plant footprint. Members asked clarifying questions about the scope — “not the entire plant, just this one location within the plant,” Mr. Casey said — and then approved the amendment by voice vote.
The board did not discuss a separate spending authorization beyond the testing amount at the meeting; staff indicated any further work would be presented to the WPCA as needed.
