Police Chief Wayne Williams reported the department executed a search at 22 Condon Drive, seized 11 dogs believed to be neglected or abused and took two arrests; two seized dogs were humanely euthanized for medical reasons and one dog was found deceased at the residence, with necropsy pending. Williams said a court hearing over possession is scheduled for July 11.
On department operations, Williams said the city was awarded a $50,000 state speeding enforcement grant that covers overtime and some equipment costs and runs July through September; he described recent grant closeouts and ongoing DUI grant work. He also said that on July 1 the department will transition extra‑duty scheduling and billing to a vendor called Extra Duty Solutions to streamline scheduling at no cost to the department.
Williams thanked the board for passing the budget that funds police staffing and listed academy graduates and recent hires; he noted five open police officer positions. The chief said the department is working with finance and legal staff to try to recoup some costs for animal care and that medical care for seized animals is expensive.
