Board approves $430,000 transfer for school curriculum updates

The Board of Aldermen voted on June 11 to approve a request from the Board of Education to release $430,000 from a designated non‑aps account for curriculum updates in literacy, math and science.
Richard Bashera, who identified himself as president of the Ansonia Board of Education, explained the BOE budget process and said the approved Board of Education budget will be voted on by the BOE the following night. He requested approval to use non‑aps funds to purchase additional curriculum materials.
Superintendent Dr. Joseph Debacco and finance staff confirmed the non‑aps account balance and reviewed how the funds would be applied. A motion to approve the transfer was made, seconded and carried by the board.
The board recorded the motion as approved; staff will process the transfer and the BOE will proceed with the curriculum procurement and implementation.
