Board honors student representative Orley Trumble as inaugural student leader

At the start of its May 27, 2026, meeting the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education paused to recognize student representative Orley Trumble for her service as one of the district’s first student board representatives.
Board members and presenters praised Trumble for helping define student leadership on the board and for elevating student perspectives in board discussions. The board presented her with a plate traditionally reserved for outgoing board members in recognition of her leadership and contributions to the district.
“Tonight we pause to recognize and celebrate a truly historic student leader,” a presenter said, describing Trumble’s work on superintendent advisory councils, voter education initiatives, and student journalism. Trumble, addressing the board, said, “I’ve learned a lot in this position. It’s been really great to see all of the factors that influence my school experience from the inside,” and told the board she felt welcomed and has appreciated the opportunity to serve. She said she will attend Columbia University next year.
Board members gathered to shake hands and take photos following the recognition.
The presentation concluded without further action; the board then proceeded to its regular agenda.
