Residents press township for sidewalk timelines, cooling centers and better waste-contractor performance

Several residents raised community-maintenance and public-service concerns during the July 15 public-comment periods.

Jela (also spelled Jala in the record) Shepard, speaking for the Civic Club of Riverton, East Riverton and Palmy, asked about the timeline for sidewalks on Terrace/Union Landing and was told design work is underway and state approval is required; the earliest anticipated start is this fall and the latest is next spring. Shepard also requested a trash can for Civic Club events and asked the committee to consider supplying one.

Resident Renee Oler Davis asked whether the township or Burlington County provides cooling centers during extreme heat; staff said the State maintains a list that includes the township library. Davis also asked for clarification about Clean Communities and other grant uses; staff described typical clean-up uses and said the other grant is for alcohol-education and rehabilitation programming.

Ben Young criticized the performance of the new waste-management contractor on Union Landing and Taylor's Lane (missed or poor edging, overgrown areas) and urged the township to notify the contractor, require corrections and bill them if necessary. Residents also asked whether the sewer authority is monitoring low acreage that previously flooded; officials suggested that question be directed to the sewer authority.

Committee members acknowledged the concerns and said staff would follow up with contractors and affected departments. No formal township action was taken during public comment; the committee adjourned after concluding business.
