Golden View Elementary honored as an OCDE Impact School; students and staff highlight STEM and parent engagement

Golden View Elementary School was recognized by the Orange County Department of Education as one of the inaugural OCDE Impact Schools for the 2025–26 school year, Principal Venus Mohler told the Ocean View School District board on May 26.

The school’s "IMPACT" framing — represented during a board presentation by a fifth‑grade student and staff — emphasized innovation, parent engagement and student achievement. Student Maya described the environmental science program and hands‑on learning experiences that the OCDE team singled out: "It helped me to see how humans impact the community, plants and animals around us," she said.

Principal Mohler and teacher Marie Ford highlighted outreach and family engagement efforts that the school said contributed to gains on diagnostic assessments: Mohler reported spring i‑Ready data showing a 15% increase in the share of students at least two grade levels above in English language arts and a 25% increase in math among the same high-performing cohort. The presentation also described family math learning day (nearly 180 parent attendees) and a "Coffee with the Principal" parent‑education series as work that boosted engagement and accessibility.

The board congratulated Golden View and invited representatives forward for a photograph. Trustees praised the school’s community partnerships and the student speaker's poise.
