After turning in the paperwork, she said school staff told her the acceptance was a mistake and that the student had been placed on a waiting list. She told trustees she had called the school and later spoke with a district staff member who promised to follow up but that no further contact had occurred.
"He is a straight‑A student... I turned the letter in in person and I'm beginning to take this personal," Sabo told the board, calling the change "unfair" and "unethical." She asked the superintendent and district staff to follow up and clarify why her grandson’s status changed and whether outreach attempts were made.
Board members acknowledged the comment and the superintendent offered to speak further with the commenter after the meeting. The board did not take immediate action at the meeting; the district was asked to follow up with the guardian about admissions communications and next steps.
