Board advances multiple policy first reads, approves consent agenda and a Safe Grad donation

The Enfield Board of Education handled a package of policy items as first reads and votes. Policy subcommittee chair Miss Broccoli presented several new 1000‑series policies; the board approved first readings on an automatic external defibrillator policy (1000A), a replacement weapons/firearms policy (1000B), a green cleaning policy (1000C), a nondiscrimination policy (1000D), a pesticide application/Integrated Pest Management policy, and a pool safety plan (1000F). Board members asked implementation questions (training, town/DPW responsibilities, peace officer exemptions) and requested clarifying language for future second reads.

The board also approved the consent agenda by roll call (vote reported as nine in favor, none opposed) and approved a $1,000 budgeted donation to the Safe Grad Committee (roll call vote recorded) and two $1,000 Lester J. Boldly Memorial Scholarships for seniors. A proposed repeal of policy 5112 (attendance/enrollment) was discussed at length; the board rescinded the repeal motion and voted to table it while staff prepare a policy crosswalk and ensure required forms and website postings remain available.
