Board approves move to trimester grade reporting for K–5 after parent input

The Nippersink SD 2 Board of Education voted to change quarterly grade reporting to trimester reporting for K–5 after administrators summarized parent focus-group feedback and described planned piloting and outreach.
The assistant superintendent told the board the district used three inputs—ISL data, AR data and teacher feedback—to identify students for accelerated courses (students must meet two of three criteria). She summarized parent focus-group results, saying parents appreciated written comments on report cards, were concerned about mixing grading scales, and largely preferred a four-point proficiency scale that adds space for an “exceeds” category. Based on the feedback, administrators proposed a pilot of trimester reporting for kindergarten and second grade, along with parent education nights and updated FAQs.
The board moved, seconded and approved the change by roll-call vote. Administration will distribute a draft parent letter and return next month with additional detail about proficiency scales and implementation timelines.
