Lawrence County approves liquid‑fuels distribution; Shenango Township to receive extra allocation

Lawrence County commissioners unanimously approved a plan May 26 to distribute remaining liquid fuels dollars from the Commonwealth to municipalities across the county, with a larger allocation for Shenango Township because of a recent municipal consolidation.
Amy McKini, director of planning and community development, told the board the county received applications from 21 of 26 municipalities; staff recommended $12,000 each for 20 municipalities and $24,000 for Shenango Township to account for the merger with South Newcastle Borough. “Based off the amount we have, we were able to allocate the number here that we are recommending,” McKini said, and noted the resolution allows the commissioners to extend similar consideration to other municipalities that merge over the next five years.
The allocations cover projects that meet the liquid fuels program guidelines (road and bridge maintenance). Commissioners Sonado, Kennedy and Bogler voted to adopt Resolution 97 by roll call.
