The Aurora City Council on Aug. 12 approved several routine items on the agenda, including a six‑month extension of a Verizon tolling agreement, the first reading of an annual financial‑disclosure ordinance and multiple special-event permits.
Council unanimously passed resolution 2025-2059 to extend the Verizon tolling agreement by six months. Mayor Kennedy called for the motion; the motion was seconded and the mayor announced the motion passed.
The council also approved first reading of ordinance 2025-3352, the city’s annual financial-disclosure ordinance. That procedural vote moves the measure to later hearings as required by city code.
On community events, the council approved the 41st annual Aurora Autofest (scheduled Oct. 4) and the Aurora Christmas Parade (Dec. 13) after staff confirmed planned street closures and department staffing. The council also granted a requested waiver of the Aurora Rec Center rental fee for a fundraiser hosted by the local nonprofit Sheltering Hope for Aurora; staff confirmed the group is a registered nonprofit and the council voted to waive the modest rental fee for that event so more proceeds remain available for local services.
What’s next: Ordinance 2025-3352 remains at first reading and will return for subsequent readings per the city’s ordinance schedule; the Verizon tolling extension is effective immediately as approved.
