Parks staff propose modest childcare and camp fee increases to offset rising costs

Candace Whitaker, assistant parks and recreation director and director of the family fitness center, presented a proposal to adjust childcare and program fees.
Whitaker asked the council to approve raising nonmember childcare from $4 to $6 per hour, revise member pricing so the first hour remains free and change the subsequent hourly tier, and increase the kids camp fee from $36 to $40 per day and the after-school program from $17 to $20 per day. She also proposed reducing the member discount from 15% to 10% across programs. Whitaker said the increases would yield roughly $30,000 in additional annual revenue and were driven by rising compliance, transportation and labor costs.
Council members asked clarifying questions and generally described the increases as reasonable given current costs; the matter remains on the ordinance docket for the regular meeting for formal action.
