Search consultant Dr. Pittman told the board the firm contacted about 1,851 prospective candidates and that stakeholders provided robust feedback (more than 687 survey responses and seven work sessions). He summarized the top criteria stakeholders identified—interpersonal and communication skills, community visibility, student‑centered decision making, legislative advocacy, and the ability to raise student performance—and said those criteria guided screening and interviews.
Board members completed a pairwise ranking rubric and the consultant reported aggregated scores. The highest‑ranked candidates were reported in point order; the board debated whether to advance the top four or include a fifth. By motion and a roll‑call vote, the board authorized moving five candidates forward for semi‑final interviews scheduled April 8–9, 2026. The names announced after the vote were Jim Wagner; Rebecca Brodeur; John Paul Jacobson; Timothy Schossow Meyer; and Joshua Anderson.
Dr. Pittman said interviews will not be live‑streamed; the district will record interviews and release the recordings afterward. The board will review semi‑finalist interview results and select finalists for public interviews at a later date.

The district emphasized that the selection process was grounded in stakeholder criteria and that the board will continue to weigh community input moving forward.
