The Grandview Heights City Council on May 26 heard a committee report on Ordinance 2026-12, a proposed update to the city’s fire prevention code that aligns local rules with recent Ohio fire-code changes and adds city-specific permit programs.
Council Member Houston, chair of the safety committee, said the committee reviewed substantive edits and discussed two local additions: a permit program for commercial EV charging stations and a permit program for mobile food units. The ordinance would establish annual permits (discussed in committee at approximately $75 per year) and would grandfather in existing commercial chargers. Existing food-truck operators that have already completed the City of Columbus permitting process would be treated as compliant under the proposed local program; food trucks without Columbus permits would need to follow Grandview Heights’ application process, which mirrors Columbus requirements.
Houston said the committee recommended approval and the council recorded the item as a second reading; no final vote took place at the May 26 meeting. Council members said the local permits are intended to clarify city oversight and ensure fire-safety standards are met for charging infrastructure and mobile vendors.
The ordinance will return for third reading and potential final action at a future meeting.
