Staff explained the proposal follows state statutory requirements that full-time local employees receive a 2 percent bonus; the proposal includes a flat $300 payment for qualifying part-time or permanent part-time employees. County staff emphasized that the Social Services portion must be separately listed so the Department of Social Services will reimburse the local share per state guidance.
County attorney Jeff explained the legal requirement for an ordinance. “Employee bonus for local government employees requires an ordinance,” he said, noting the ordinance also sets the appropriation and the mechanism for distributing funds. The board approved a motion directing staff to advertise the ordinance and associated appropriation for consideration at the June regular meeting.
Staff said the item was budgeted in the FY26 budget and that final appropriation language will be presented in June. The board's action authorizes the advertisement step required by statute rather than immediate payout.
