Uniontown council approves Sunrise Meadows plat and Tarragon annexation, rejects Kazer Mezic annexation; VFW lease amendment cleared

Council approved multiple land-use and facility items at its May 11, 2026 meeting, including final plat approval for a 28-lot subdivision and an annexation request, while rejecting a separate annexation petition.

Staff presented the Sunrise Meadows final plat (resolution 1875). Community-development staff member Chris Bass told the council the subdivision’s infrastructure—streets, sidewalks, utilities—and required certificates were complete and that performance and maintenance bonds had been posted. Council moved to approve resolution 1875 and the motion passed on a voice vote.

The council then took up two annexation petitions. For the Kazer Mezic petition (resolution 1876), staff recommended modifying the request but noted the area would total roughly 20 acres with an estimated 2026 county-assessor valuation of nearly $5,000,000 and that the land would be designated R-2 (low-density residential) upon annexation. After discussion, the motion to approve resolution 1876 failed on a council vote.

On the Tarragon annexation (resolution 1877), staff reported the petition (filed 03/24/2026) proposed an area on the east side of town of roughly 18 acres; staff recommended modifying the request to include six parcels, noted sewer and water stub outs nearby, and said the applicant had offered to reimburse city review costs. Council voted to approve resolution 1877; the presiding officer announced the outcome as five yeses and one no.

Separately, Parks Director Alina Hibbs described a second amendment to the city’s lease with VFW Post 1949 to provide temporary, exclusive weekday use of the VFW hall for senior-center programming during renovation of the senior center. The amendment (resolution 1878) covers June 1–Sept. 30, 2026, includes approximately $6,800 in compensation to the VFW and small ADA-related improvements to the hall to be paid from the project budget; the council approved the amendment on a voice vote.

What happens next: the approved final plat and the Tarragon annexation proceed under the city’s permitting and boundary-review workflows. The failed Kazer Mezic annexation remains rejected at this meeting; no further action was taken. The VFW lease amendment provides temporary space for senior programming during construction.
