Board authorizes superintendent to sign easements for Brookville sidewalk and crosswalk project

Dr. Stanley briefed the board on a proposed sidewalk project in the Brookville area that would connect Laxton Road, Timberlake Road and Winhurst and add pedestrian lights and crosswalks near Brookville Middle School. He said the developer requested roughly four temporary easements for construction and three permanent easements for maintenance of slopes and drainage. "In return for the easements, they're offering us $16,000 a little more," Dr. Stanley said.
Board members asked for clarification about impacts: Dr. Stanley noted three trees near the bus loop and in front of the school would likely be removed and that a section of fence on Laxton might be taken down during construction. He said the work is estimated to begin in the summer of 2027 and continue about a year, with much of the work near the school scheduled for summer months to avoid disruption. The board moved and seconded authorization for the superintendent to proceed with the easement agreements; the motion carried by voice vote with no opposition.
The presentation noted Mr. Hawkins had reviewed the easement contract and described it as a typical developer agreement; Dr. Stanley said he shared mapping/aerial photos with the board showing temporary and permanent easement areas. The superintendent's office will proceed to finalize documents as authorized by the board.
