During the April 10 meeting the Board of Supervisors approved several academic and administrative items brought forward by Provost Blanchard.
The board voted to award a posthumous Associate of Science degree to Giovanni Emile Nolan (LSU Alexandria) after finding Mr. Nolan had completed 48 of 60 required credit hours and met residency and GPA thresholds. The board also approved awarding an honorary Doctor of Engineering to alumnus Roy O. Martin III in recognition of his philanthropic and technical contributions.
The board approved a revised mission statement for LSU A&M to reflect its reorganization as a research‑intensive flagship and approved LSU Shreveport’s request to offer a 100% online Master of Science in Biotechnology to meet regional workforce demand. The board discussed alignment with institutional policy and accreditation standards before approving the items by motion and without objection.
On the consent agenda the board approved naming requests for athletic facility spaces, a title change for the Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Studies to the Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Science (strictly a title change), the renaming of the School of Allied Health Professions at LSU Health New Orleans to the School of Health Professions, and continuation of authorization for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Center of Excellence (as detailed in the research presentation earlier). These consent items were approved without objection.
What’s next: Campus offices will implement the approved name changes and program launch plans. The Provost’s office will follow up on the MS in Biotechnology implementation schedule and ensure accreditation and staffing needs are met.
