District leaders warn of state education funding shortfalls that could force future cuts

Board discussion noted the district has prepared conservatively in recent years and that current fund balances should sustain operations in the short term, but trustees acknowledged the possibility of difficult choices later. "We may have to look at areas of reducing spending somewhere," a staff member said.
Trustees asked about which programs are most at risk; staff said teacher salary grant funding was not currently flagged for cuts, while adequacy targets and other supplementals are being discussed. The board asked staff to continue monitoring legislative developments and to communicate potential impacts to employees and the community if the state funding picture changes.
