Belton board accepts clean 2025 audit; auditor reports no findings

Ben Grunkkey, an external auditor, presented the Belton School District's 2025 audit and told the board it received an unmodified (clean) financial statement opinion.
"You guys got an unmodified opinion, which is a clean opinion," Grunkkey said, and added that auditors found no adjustments or material errors. He described the audit's three parts: the financial statement opinion, the federal single-audit (major programs), and the state compliance review.
Grunkkey said the district had two major federal programs this year ' Title I and the child nutrition cluster ' and that neither produced findings. He also noted a state reporting change this year requiring January membership figures in addition to the traditional September membership table; the auditor said the additional data were already tracked and produced no compliance findings.
Board members asked about common audit findings and the selection process; Grunkkey said documentation for transportation is a frequent trouble spot in other districts but praised Belton's recordkeeping. After brief questions, a board member moved to approve the audit "as presented," a second was given, and the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
The board took the vote immediately after the presentation; the auditor closed the report by thanking the board and wishing everyone happy holidays.
