Public commenter alleges trustee misconduct, calls for accountability

A community member used the board's public comment period on March 26 to deliver a sharply worded critique of trustee Matthew Short and district hiring practices.

Angela Liberator addressed trustees during the three-minute public comment slot and alleged that Trustee Short had held seven teaching jobs in 10 years, had been placed on administrative leave at a prior campus and had used fabricated references when applying for employment. Liberator said she reviewed personnel documents and questioned why district staff did not contact references. "Short's personnel file shows a conversation with only one prior employer," Liberator said, alleging multiple forced departures from other posts and accusing the district of improper vetting.

The speaker urged the board to "purge inept administrators" and deliver accountability, saying failures in vetting had placed students at risk. Board chair or staff cut the speaker off at the three-minute limit; no response from the trustee or administration was recorded during the public session immediately following the comment.

Trustee Matthew Short later made a trustee report noting he remained restricted from certain district activities; he also summarized his continuing community engagement and meetings he had attended. The board took no public action on the accusation during the meeting; personnel matters were handled later in closed session, where the board approved employment and contract items.
