Morgan County health coordinator outlines school wellness programs for MSD Martinsville

Jordan Gallion, Morgan County Schools health coordinator, told the MSD of Martinsville board that district and county partners collaborated on multiple health and wellness initiatives over the past year that targeted students and staff.
Gallion outlined programs including free heart-health screenings for staff in partnership with the Morgan County Health Department; a "98-8 awareness night" focused on suicide prevention with the Morgan County Mental Health Task Force; oral-hygiene education and supplies for third-grade students; launch of Girls on the Run at Brooklyn STEM; Every Kid Healthy Week activities promoting physical activity and nutrition; and collaboration on vaping intervention and attendance initiatives using opioid-settlement funding.
Assistant Superintendent Susie Lips introduced Gallion and thanked community partners and district staff for their efforts. Gallion credited district nurses, the food-services team and the wellness advisory committee for supporting staff wellness and training.
Gallion's presentation emphasized the role of partnerships in sustaining school health programs and identified ongoing opportunities to expand support for pre-K programs and intervention work funded through settlement and grant sources.
