Goshen board approves routine finance, personnel and donations; policies set for first reading

At its regular meeting the Goshen Local Board of Education approved a series of routine agenda and consent items covering financial contracts, personnel recommendations and school donations.

The board approved the meeting agenda earlier in the session. Later, trustees passed financial items 1–9 (including a contract with Claremont County services, the district’s workman’s compensation arrangement and the SRO agreement), with motions moved and seconded and a roll‑call vote recorded in the minutes.

Personnel motions covering retirements, hires, extended time assignments, substitutes and supplemental athletic contracts were approved, including a resolution to initiate Ohio procedures to post and consider re‑employment (retire‑rehire) for two identified employees (Mrs. Scherzinger and Mr. Tom Turner, director of student services). The superintendent emphasized retention and the potential cost savings of retire‑rehire arrangements.

The board also approved miscellaneous items including the tuition‑based public preschool fee schedule for the coming school year and accepted an $8,000 donation of books from Cincy Book Bus.

Three policies were presented for first reading only (an AI policy, an early‑entrance/kindergarten entry age policy with Aug. 1 chosen for first‑grade eligibility, and a state‑mandated policy on misbranded/cultivated protein products). Those policies will be voted on at a subsequent meeting.

Votes were recorded via roll call for the consent blocks; the record in the transcript shows unanimous affirmative votes on the consent motions as called by the clerk.
