Board approves replacement of minivan, Impala and maintenance pickup to maintain transportation and operations

Roy, the district maintenance/transportation staff member, reviewed the fleet replacement schedule and recommended three replacements: an Explorer-style vehicle to replace a heavily used minivan (for special-needs and small-group runs), a mid-size SUV to replace the aging Impala used in driver's education, and a heavier-duty pickup (F-250) to replace the rusting maintenance truck. Roy explained operational usage (minivan frequently used multiple times per day; maintenance truck showing increasing rust and wear) and noted the 3/4-ton versus 1/2-ton trade-off tied to plow needs and staffing for snow removal.

Board members discussed whether to secure state bid pricing now to avoid production delays and whether a plow-capable truck was needed for contingency snow removal when staff are unavailable. Roy said ordering on an earlier pricing cycle would place vehicles on the lot for district payment on the budget date (Sept. 1) while avoiding long delivery waits.

After discussion the board voted to approve purchasing the recommended Escape (car replacement), Explorer (minivan replacement) and F-250 (maintenance pickup) to follow the district replacement schedule. The motion passed by voice vote with all present board members approving.
