The MSAD 60 board reviewed several student-policy updates on May 21, including a first reading of a new temperature-guidelines policy and discussion of updated cellphone rules required by state law.
The policy committee presented the model temperature-guidelines policy the state has circulated; the committee will return the policy for a second read and potential vote at the next meeting. Board members raised concerns about a state allowance that would permit indoor temperatures up to 99 degrees under certain conditions; several directors urged the committee to consider lower local thresholds and short-term mitigation such as window or portable air-conditioning where electrical capacity allows.
On technology rules, board members discussed revisions to JFC and JFC‑R (cellphones and other electronic devices). The board noted that state law requires a preK–12 cellphone ban to take effect Aug. 1; the committee is drafting consistent language to apply across all grades.
The board completed second readings and approved bullying-related items: JICK E1 (bullying reporting form), JICK E2 (investigation/response form), and JICKR (administrative procedures). Directors said the forms and the graphic illustrating conflict versus bullying will be printed for schools and posted online as part of efforts to streamline reporting and clarify investigative steps.
A board member suggested combining the bullying/conflict graphic with anti-suicide resources to increase visibility and student access to crisis support; staff indicated they will explore that format for school postings.
