The Aplington-Parkersburg Comm School District board approved the 2026–27 school calendar, vendor changes and several operational purchases during its March video update.
Mr. Fleshner, a district staff member, said Iowa rules prevent starting school earlier than Aug. 23; because Aug. 23, 2026 falls on a Sunday, the district will begin classes on Aug. 24 and will maintain full-day staff professional-development dismissals.
The board approved switching to a smaller, local photography vendor that will offer more a la carte picture options and multiple picture days across district buildings. Mr. Fleshner said the vendor change was chosen in part because it supports the local area and provides more flexible ordering for families.
The board also authorized the purchase of an autonomous floor scrubber for the high school to assist custodial staff with heavy foot-traffic cleaning, particularly during winter months. Mr. Fleshner said the machine is intended to reduce custodial workload and keep facilities ready for daily activities.
In student news, the board approved out-of-state travel for DECA students Emma Han and Ellie Rein after their competition performance, allowing them to attend the national competition in Atlanta. Mr. Fleshner congratulated the students and their advisor, Mrs. Asher.
Remaining consent-agenda items included several hirings and routine fiscal items; the district announced a special meeting on April 16 (bond sale) and the next regular meetings on April 20 and May 18.
