Aplington-Parkersburg board narrows FY27 tax-rate proposal to 1393

At the April regular meeting of the Aplington-Parkersburg Comm School District Board, Mr. Fleshner, presenting the board update, said the district completed its required second budget hearing and refined the FY27 tax-rate proposal from a previously posted 1447 to 1393 after further budget adjustments.
The tax-rate posting is a required step that shows the maximum rate the district might seek; Mr. Fleshner said the initial 1447 figure reflected that statutory requirement and that subsequent budget work allowed the board to lower the working proposal to 1393. "We actually ended up landing on a tax rate of 1393," he said.
Why it matters: the school district must post a high-end estimate to meet notice requirements; changes between the initial posting and the final adopted rate can affect property-tax expectations for local residents. Mr. Fleshner also reminded listeners that elements of the budget reflect costs tied to a general obligation bond previously approved by district voters.
In other budget-related business the board received a final FY25 audit report and heard routine budget items. Mr. Fleshner thanked district staff for completing a clean audit with very limited comments. The board also approved the annual graduation list and several standard contracts tied to personnel and operations.
