El Campo ISD board approves math improvement plan, ParentSquare contract and personnel contracts

At the March meeting the El Campo ISD Board of Trustees approved several routine and substantive items: the ECMS local improvement plan for mathematics, the districtwide ParentSquare communications/website contract, and multiple personnel contract renewals following a closed session.
The math improvement plan for the middle school was introduced to address three years of missed targets among Hispanic students in math; staff said the target was 39% at the Meets level and the campus reported 24% for that subgroup. District staff described targeted strategies including vocabulary-focused warm-ups in elective classes and coordinated data reviews; Mr. Dubroc moved to approve the plan and Mr. Ryan seconded the motion. The board approved the plan by voice vote.
Trustees then voted to adopt ParentSquare as the unified district communication and website platform. Valerie, the district end-user representative, told the board that consolidating messaging and schedules on one platform would streamline parent communications. Staff cited a total next-year cost of about $33,000 (year-to-year contract) and said final annual pricing from vendors for the next year had not yet been provided. Mr. Dorotik moved to approve; Mr. Ryan seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The board recessed into a closed session under Texas Government Code Section 551.074 for personnel matters. After reconvening, trustees approved central office administrator contracts, campus principal contracts and assistant principal contracts as presented; motions were moved by Mr. Dubroc and seconded by Mr. Dorotik and Miss Smith as recorded.
In a superintendent report the board was told that retrofitting buses with seat belts would cost about $30,000 per retrofit-eligible bus, that six buses are beyond retrofit age and of the remaining six, two are in regular routes while the others are spares; the district said it will await state grant programs before committing district funds to retrofits.
