South Elementary students showcase 'Quickart Pride' at board meeting
Summary
Third- and second-grade students from South Elementary presented the Quickart Pride program at the New Philadelphia Board meeting, demonstrating classroom activities intended to build perseverance, responsibility, inquiry and engagement.
Third- and second-grade students from South Elementary School presented the board with a classroom project called "Quickart Pride," describing five pride characteristics teachers use to build student habits: persevere, responsible, inquire (ask questions), engage and others.
During their presentation the students explained weekly pride activities, classroom games such as a Simon Says variation used to teach responsibility, and a sticker-tracking reward system that leads to a "wall of fame" and prizes. One student described the perseverance characteristic: "First letter persevered. We know that we can work through any challenge and refuse to give up." The board and audience responded with applause and thanks.
The presentation was brief and intended as a showcase of instructional practice and student work; the board thanked the students and invited them to stay for the remainder of the meeting.
