The Silver Spring Township Zoning Hearing Board approved Variance 2024‑5 for Timothy Strausbaugh to construct a 30‑by‑40 detached garage at 106 Skyline Drive after testimony about lot constraints and utility locations.
Strausbaugh testified that the lot is large but irregularly shaped with slope and a seasonal spring on one side; he said placing an attached garage would eliminate rear access. He explained the proposed garage is placed to minimize impervious coverage while preserving access to rear septic areas. The applicant provided neighbor signatures in support.
Township staff confirmed a private septic inspection and an approved stormwater management plan; staff advised the board that the request required two variances (front yard setback and height by about six feet) and that the proposal otherwise complies with regulations.
Board members asked whether signficant regrading or utility relocation could avoid variances; Strausbaugh said relocation would require substantial work to well/septic/electric and was impractical. After brief deliberation, the board voted to approve Variance 2024‑5 (motion by Martin Leonard, second by Chairman Franklin); the motion carried unanimously.
