Comsewogue board approves multiple personnel moves, contracts and donations ahead of budget vote

The Brookhaven‑Comsewogue Board of Education on Tuesday approved a slate of personnel changes, contract renewals and donations during a routine May meeting called ahead of the district budget vote.
Board President opened the meeting with a moment of silence for a recently deceased Miller Place eighth grader and then led routine business. The board accepted the resignation of Tim Dornechak, district administrator for pupil personnel services, effective June 30, 2026, and approved the appointment of Tim Journeaux‑Czack as Assistant Superintendent for Business effective July 1, 2026, for a three‑year probationary term through June 30, 2029. ‘‘Welcome aboard,’’ the board said during the appointment discussion.

The board also accepted several retirements and personnel changes, including the retirements of office and custodial staff and appointment of new teachers and extracurricular coordinators for the 2026‑27 school year. In a separate motion the board authorized 2026–27 salaries and contractual terms for non‑bargaining unit employees and delegated signature authority to the board president. Trustee Mr. Renard announced he would recuse himself from that item; the clerk then polled the board and the motion carried with at least one abstention recorded in the minutes.
Other formal approvals included contract renewals and amendments with Eastern Suffolk BOCES and a health and welfare services agreement with the South Huntington Union Free School District for nonpublic school students attending in that district. The board approved budget transfers, accepted a $2,000 scholarship donation from Suffolk Transportation Services and accepted a Terryville Road PTA donation of 22 indoor recess bins listed at an approximate value of $4,200. Several pieces of equipment and a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado were declared obsolete.
Quotes from the meeting reflected routine recognition rather than debate. The board president closed the meeting by urging attendees to vote in the upcoming budget election and to get home safely.
