Superintendent Peter Hilts presented recommended annual strategic objectives for board adoption, telling members the administration recommends retaining the district’s writing objective and the middle‑school performance objective, sunsetting a cyber‑presence objective and elevating a charter‑school relations objective for the coming cycle.
Hilts said he had convened charter leaders who expressed enthusiasm for a charter‑leader summit and proposed collaboration on contracts, funding, reporting and decision‑making. Charter representatives also suggested partnering on metrics to evaluate the objective and considered sending charter leaders to participate in some district decision‑making processes.
Board members welcomed the emphasis on communication and collaboration. Hilts said staff will prepare the same package presented in prior years with three recommended objectives for board adoption at the March regular meeting; the board may add an additional engagement objective after a separate presentation.
"They were quite positive," Hilts said of the charter leaders, while noting the district would also hold charter partners to higher standards for performance and communication.
The board directed staff to move the proposed objectives forward for the March meeting packet.
