At a special-called meeting, the Scott County Board of Education voted to adopt the meeting agenda and to proceed with a resolution that will determine which applicants are granted interviews in the district's director search.
The board turned discussion to Mr. Bateman, who outlined a draft resolution that names each candidate and proposes that each be voted on separately; under the draft, any candidate receiving four votes would be granted an interview. "I'm not pushing you to do it that way, but I think it is a fair way to do it," Mr. Bateman said when presenting the resolution.
Mr. Bateman read the list of applicants the board will consider: Scott Cash, Kenny Chadwell, Jerry E. Gibson, Daniel Sexton, Keith Shannon and Mark Taylor. He proposed holding interviews during the weeks of April 13–17 and/or April 20–24, convening a special-called meeting on April 28 to select the new director subject to contract negotiation, and, if a contract is negotiated, ratifying the director contract at the May 14 regular meeting.
Board members said they preferred the opportunity to hear from every candidate and discussed logistics including evening interview slots (no earlier than 4:30 p.m.) and accommodating candidate availability. Members agreed to schedule a special-called meeting next Tuesday to adopt the resolution that will govern which candidates receive interviews and to advertise the meeting publicly.
On roll-call votes recorded in the transcript, multiple members voted 'Aye' to adopt the agenda and to proceed with the resolution and meeting schedule; the motions carried. The meeting record moves toward adjournment shortly afterward.
Next steps: the board directed staff to publish public notice for the special-called meeting, set interviews during the agreed two-week windows, and coordinate specific interview times with candidates granted interviews.
