Volunteers detail rifle-range remodel, youth trap nights at Isaac Walton Shooting Sports Complex

He said the rifle-range membership stands at "over 250 members" and described the membership model: members receive an electronic key card through the Zephy app, may escort nonmembers for a guest fee, and the facility maintains an access log and can deactivate cards when rules are violated.
The volunteers also described plans to re‑open the shotgun (trap) range this summer and to run an eight‑night youth "open night" series targeted at middle‑ and high‑school students. "We're going to open the trap range for eight Monday nights for what we're going to call youth open night," Rogers said, adding the program will be youth focused and run with volunteer oversight and partner organizations. Organizers said they will cap participation to ensure safety (the organizers set a working cap of 20 youth per night), require parental or guardian presence, collect waivers, and cover target costs for the first two nights to encourage participation.
Rogers credited local partners — including Great Plains Outdoors — and volunteers for restarting youth programs and said the club is encouraging formation of school teams and 4‑H shotgun activities. He advised residents to watch the Isaac Walton Facebook page, the club’s website and sign‑up sheets at local schools for registration details.
The volunteers emphasized safety and volunteer policing of facility use: "We are policing it to the best of our abilities," Rogers said, noting staff can deactivate access cards when members violate rules.
The commission did not take formal action during the update. The presentation was framed as an informational public‑forum report and concluded with commissioners thanking the volunteers for their work and the community support.
The commission will receive any future permit or funding requests through the normal agenda process.
