Commission schedules Board of Equalization, tables mower trade-in and approves loader trade-in

Early in the meeting the commission convened as the Board of Equalization, read the statutory requirement and moved to ascertain that taxable properties had been properly placed on the assessment roll, in accordance with South Dakota Codified Law 10-11-13. The commission scheduled the local Board of Equalization annual meeting for the third Monday in March and voted to recess until 6:00 p.m. the following day for the formal session.
Later in new business, staff recommended declaring a 2000 Gravely PMZ 260 mower surplus and ordering a trade-in; the appraised value (average of three valuations) was reported as $966.67. Commissioners asked staff to check local resale or purchase options before proceeding and voted to table the mower trade-in for follow-up.
The commission also declared surplus the 2021 John Deere 624P loader and ordered its trade-in. Commissioners noted the appraised average of about $178,000 and approved the trade-in by roll call, commenting that trade-in value compared favorably with historical purchase prices and current new-equipment costs.
The meeting closed with commissioner updates and a roll call vote to enter executive session under SDCL 1-25-2 and SDCL 9-34-19.
