Marysville council approves new city administrator contract effective March 15

The Marysville City Council voted to approve a contract for the city administrator and set the contract’s effective date for March 15.

Council members said they discussed the agreement in closed session because the post is a non-elected position. During the public discussion, members questioned Section 2.3 about residency language, asking whether the requirement to “maintain residency” meant residency within Marysville city limits. City Administrator Josh said the contract text did not explicitly say “within city limits,” and members asked staff to clarify the expectation; councillors agreed the intention was local residency but did not add new language before approval.

Council also clarified payroll timing and whether the first pay period would be split; staff confirmed the effective date amendment to March 15 and said payroll would align with the end of the pay period to avoid disruptions. A council member moved to accept the contract with the March 15 effective date; the motion was seconded and passed on a voice vote.

The council did not read the full, signed contract into the record during the meeting. The city administrator told the council the term would run two years from the effective date unless extended. The council directed staff to finalize and execute the contract documents.
