Board approves up to $747,469 for new stadium scoreboard, to be paid from 2015 bond funds

The Willis ISD Board approved Guaranteed Maximum Price No.1 for a new stadium scoreboard at its March 18 meeting after moving the item from the consent agenda to action.
Construction staff described the scoreboard base package: a 28‑by‑36 display to be located at the north end of the stadium with necessary power and data conduit work back to the fieldhouse and press box. Staff said the proposed GMP1 covers procurement, construction and installation of the scoreboard and that GMP2 (phase two) will address sound, video and control room work pending further re‑scoping to reduce cost.
A board motion approved GMP1 not to exceed $747,469 and delegated authority to the superintendent to negotiate and execute the final GMP1 amendment. Trustees stated the work will be funded from prior bond proceeds (2015 bond funds), and staff said they expect the scoreboard to be ordered immediately and installed before the start of the fall football season, with infrastructure work completed by June.
Board members asked about the anticipated cost for the remaining sound/video scope (staff said they are targeting under $200,000 after rework) and about relocating or reusing the existing scoreboard; staff said moving is possible but involves additional cost. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff will return to the board with any subsequent GMP2 proposal once phase‑two scope and pricing are refined.
