The Willis ISD Board of Trustees on May 13 voted to authorize the superintendent to pursue annexation of a 94‑acre tract located off Highway 75 and Cochran Road into the City of Willis after the district closes on the property.
Dr. James said the closing on the parcel had been pushed to May 19 but that the district had completed a topographic and meets‑and‑bounds survey and phase‑one environmental study, with follow‑up work reported clear. Staff also said the district obtained an appraisal and intends to pay fair market value for the tract.
Trustees discussed project closeouts and identified buybacks and deductive change orders as sources of cost savings on recent capital projects. The board moved to authorize the superintendent to submit annexation paperwork once the sale closes; the motion was made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Parson, and carried unanimously (6 yes).
Administration said it will proceed with annexation filings and return to the board with procedural updates as needed.
