Rockdale County selected for Georgia DOE Innovative K12 cohort; district recognizes student achievements

Cindy Ball, the district's chief of strategy and innovation, announced that Rockdale County Public Schools was selected to participate in the Georgia Department of Education's Innovative K12 Learning Models cohort.
"Congratulations nd we have been selected," Ball said, reading excerpts of the state's congratulatory letter and explaining that the district was chosen for reimagining learning, specifically citing the proposed expansion of the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology as the basis for the application.
Superintendent Shirley Chester and cabinet members also presented a string of student recognitions: winners and finalists in spelling bees, regional and state qualifiers in science and engineering fairs, participants in the Governor's Honors Program, and multiple regional athletic honors. The superintendent noted upcoming events and said the district's foundation and community partners supported scholars and programs.
As a separate item later in the meeting, board member Justin Kenny, at his final board meeting, delivered farewell remarks thanking the judge who appointed him and the voters who supported his service.
The selection for the state cohort will run from March through October and staff said the district will expand its magnet program as part of its cohort work. No formal board vote was required to accept participation; the announcement was presented as information.
