Council roundtable: state budget uncertainty, youth engagement and EMS billing protocol discussions

Councilmember Leon reported that state revenues were ‘‘$851 million ahead of forecast’’ and said the General Assembly was likely to reconvene around June 22; members noted uncertainty about vetoes and whether language tied to teacher bonuses, a 1% sales tax ballot question for school construction, and Navy housing would survive final action.
A councilmember asked the public safety committee to review a request from Cintara regarding EMS billing and response protocols. City staff said they have been in conversation with Cintara and that administrative protocols remain to be established before committee action.
Councilmembers also asked staff to prepare a list of neighborhoods with open ditches and sidewalks requests to help prioritize pedestrian safety work and possible right‑of‑way and funding needs.
There were no formal votes recorded during the work session; council adjourned after the roundtable.
