"I came here in 1987 and I thought I'd be here about a year or two," Darwin Singleton said in brief remarks accepting the proclamation, describing his work telling Mobile’s stories and urging the community to "embrace" diversity and inclusion. "This city is so rich and so powerful and so beautiful. I'm proud to be part of it."
Council members praised Singleton from the dais. Council member Woods said local television personalities like Singleton helped make Mobile a home for many residents; other council members thanked him for decades of professionalism and community promotion. The mayor’s proclamation listed Singleton’s career milestones and credited him with longstanding support for historic neighborhoods and downtown revitalization.
The recognition took place amid the council’s broader ceremonial period, which also included proclamations for community volunteers. The council then moved on to scheduled business, including finance and CIP items.
