At the meeting the Acushnet Select Board took several noncontroversial items together: a DPW paving authorization, a CATV reserve transfer, a presentation by a flagging contractor and a parade update.
The board approved using up to $110,000 in Chapter 90 funds to pay for Morningside reclamation and paving; staff will confirm procurement/bidding rules with the town administrator. The motion passed with board approval.
On the special-town-meeting agenda, the board approved a proposal to transfer up to $49,000 from the CATV reserve fund to purchase and outfit a utility van with an aerial lift for Acushnet CATV operations and fiber maintenance; members said the van would help town staff perform fiber and camera work and that the purchase would be funded from cable-fee reserves, not general taxes.
Hank Turjan of American Traffic Control proposed using civilian flaggers (including retired officers) to fill detail gaps the department could not staff; board members said they would follow up with the company and the union representative. The board also heard parade-planning updates from Brad: organizers are targeting Saturday, Nov. 8 for the Veterans Day parade and have discussed coordination with police, fire and EMA, and the organizer applied for a potential flyover through federal channels.
All items were advanced with staff follow-up instructions; the board did not allocate additional general-fund dollars for these items at the meeting.
