Council adopts 2025–2035 Comprehensive Plan; final approval awaits state review

The East Providence City Council voted Aug. 19 to adopt the proposed 2025–2035 Comprehensive Plan.
Council members and planning staff noted the plan is the product of years of work and community engagement. Council President Rodri praised staff and volunteers and thanked Keith for his work on the plan. Staff emphasized the plan will guide city decisions but does not become final until approved by the Rhode Island State Planning Office; until state approval, the prior comprehensive plan remains the controlling document for state-required determinations.
The council approved the adoption with a voice vote and asked staff to continue coordination with the state planning office as the plan enters the review process.
The adoption signals the city's policy direction for land use, transportation, housing and capital investments for the next decade, subject to the state review and final sign-off.
