Library and cultural staff report surge in summer use, preview fall events

Library and cultural staff told the Malbury City Commission on Aug. 5 that summer programming drew strong participation and announced upcoming exhibits and festivals.
Library assistant Stephanie Figerto presented monthly metrics and program highlights: she reported circulation of 9,435 in June and an updated July total of 9,531, noted technology and one‑on‑one tech appointments, and described summer program attendance across age groups. Figerto also described the library’s summer reading campaign and an on‑site book fair sponsored by the Friends of the Malberry Library.
Chelsea Young, director of culture and programming, reviewed museum and civic center rentals, summer exhibits and programs (including Magic School Bus and Shark Week activities), and said a new immersive exhibit, "Departure" by Sher Ross, will open Aug. 28 with a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Young also said vendor applications are open online for Hispanic Heritage Festival (Oct. 4), Harvest Festival (Oct. 25) and the Christmas Village (Dec. 13).
Why it matters: staff emphasized that public programs drive downtown visitation and community engagement and noted that the new online vendor payment system should make event administration easier.
Next steps: staff invited the public to upcoming programs and said they will continue to report attendance and circulation figures to the commission during budget workshops.
