The Osawatomie City Council voted to approve the Memorial Hall restoration committee’s recommendation to select Lloyd Builders of Ottawa as the preferred contractor for restoration work.
Staff reported they solicited qualifications, evaluated five responses, interviewed three local contractors and concluded Lloyd Builders was the best fit; the staff said Lloyd Builders has experience on regional restorations including a post office restoration referenced in the packet. The committee’s recommendation follows fundraising efforts that brought in community donations, a significant gift from Hawkins, and matching funds from the Miami County Community Foundation and the Patterson Foundation; staff characterized the committed fundraising pool at roughly $200,000.
Staff said the city will stop renting the facility beginning Jan. 1 to allow contractor mobilization and that municipal court would be relocated to an alternate city location for the first part of the year while work is underway. The council moved and carried a motion to approve resolution 1336 following the committee recommendation.
Work is expected to begin in mid- to late January to early February timelines as staff and contractor finalize schedules and procurement method details (construction-management-at-risk model was discussed in the packet).
