The Smithfield Township Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved its consent agenda, authorized a contractor to repair the Post Office Bridge and voted to change its regular meeting nights to Wednesdays beginning in October.
The consent agenda cleared routine items including the planning commission’s review of a data-center ordinance, approval of the draft 2024 financial statements and ratification of soil testing at Marshall’s Falls Park. The board approved the September 9 bill package totaling $97,83.92 across the general, professional escrow and capital improvement funds.
On the Post Office Bridge, Engineer John Trestler reported the single low bidder will subcontract shotcrete work to a firm he had solicited and that the scope includes measures to protect the stream under the arches. The recommended contract price is $246,475, to be paid from the township’s capital improvement fund. After discussion about anticipated posted weight limits and emergency access, the board approved moving forward with the contract and funding from capital funds.
The board also voted to amend the supervisors’ meeting schedule to the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month beginning in October 2025, with the caveat that holiday conflicts will be adjusted as needed and a published schedule will follow.
What’s next: staff will issue the notice to proceed for the bridge work after finalizing the contract details, and the township will publish the revised meeting calendar.
