West Frankfort appoints Jacob Gas as water superintendent; hires firefighter and reappoints trustee

The West Frankfort City Council voted Jan. 27 to appoint Jacob Gas as the city's water superintendent following the retirement of Jim White and approved other personnel items.
Mayor Arv said Jim White had served about 10 years as water superintendent and introduced Jake as his successor. "Jake has stepped up to the plate to do that, and I think he deserves the position," the mayor said as the council moved and carried the resolution to appoint Jacob Gas. The motion to amend the agenda to add the appointment was approved before the appointment vote.
Earlier in the meeting the council approved a resolution to hire Erin Davis as a firefighter for the West Frankfort Fire Department. The council also voted to reappoint Paul Lawrence as the city's trustee to the Ren Lake Conservancy District, a term set to expire June 30, 2031.
All personnel motions were adopted by roll-call votes recorded as yes by Commissioner Harkkins, Commissioner Warren, Commissioner Howard and Mayor Arv. No opposed votes or abstentions were recorded on the personnel items.
Mayor Arv and other members congratulated the new appointees and thanked Jim White for his service. The council did not discuss compensation or further personnel details in open session.
