Supervisors approve nearly $300,000 in opioid-settlement funds for jail medication-assisted treatment and related re-entry supports

The Black Hawk County Board of Supervisors on May 26 approved opioid-settlement funded agreements to expand treatment services for jail inmates diagnosed with opioid use disorder.
A resolution authorized a contract with a medication-assisted-treatment provider (listed as Napare) for $293,414.93 through June 30, 2027, and the board approved an amendment to the county’s existing contractor (SnapCare, Inc.) with an amount not to exceed $293,414.93 for the same period. A separate $10,500 resolution funds re-entry supports provided through the sheriff’s office (social work services, bus passes, gas cards and a smart TV for group counseling) for the same term, also funded with opioid settlement money.
County staff said Pathways is providing counseling services and that these contracts represent portions of a broader mix of services for inmates; staff also noted that continuation of some services will depend on funding conditions and any future RFPs for medical provider contracts. Supervisors voted to approve the resolutions and direct the chair to sign the agreements as submitted by finance staff.
