Bo said that after a May 15 call involving dismembered human remains possibly disposed in a quarry, police and prosecutors asked the Coroner’s office whether any trained divers were available. He said teams led by Craig Hansel (a deputy coroner and experienced diver) and members Bruce Bray, Michael Martin, John Rakis and Joe Shambo volunteered over several days to perform searches in cold, murky, tick‑infested conditions and helped recover several bags of human remains for the multi‑agency criminal investigation.
Bo and Cassandra Schiffner presented certificates and a challenge coin to team representatives at the meeting and publicly recognized the dive team’s contribution to the investigation. Fire Chief (unnamed in the transcript) also spoke briefly about reactivating the department’s dive unit and thanked the Coroner’s Office for the recognition. The Board and audience applauded.
