Ansonia awards remediation contract as state-funded cleanup moves forward at Olsen Drive

The Ansonia Board of Aldermen unanimously awarded an environmental-remediation contract Aug. 13 to Eniro Consulting to begin soil removal and remediation at the Olsen Drive field, officials said.
Economic development staff told the board the city secured approximately $3.8 million in remediation funding to address extensive contamination that emerged when the site was opened for testing. "It turns out that once the soil was opened up ... the property is worth negative values because of the extensive cleanup," staff said, explaining why the grant and remediation were necessary to enable future development.
Following bid clarifications and re-submissions, Eniro Consulting (the low responsive bidder) was recommended and the board authorized the award and contractor mobilization. City staff emphasized the grant covers remediation activities and that the city is using the funds to make a formerly infeasible parcel buildable for its intended end use.
Aldermen asked about bid selection procedures and mobilization timing; staff said the contractor will be asked to begin work immediately after procurement completes. The board approved the award by voice vote.
